 Raymond Jansen 

Ray is the Chairman of the APWG and a member of the IUCN Species Survival Commission Pangolin Specialist Group. He is a Full Professor in the Department of Environmental, Water and Earth Sciences in the Faculty of Science at the Tshwane University of Technology. He holds a PhD in Zoology from the Percy FitzPatrick Institute of African Ornithology


based at the University of Cape Town. Ray’s research interests are diverse and currently focus on rare and endangered birds, mammals and reptiles such as the Southern Ground Hornbill, Yellow-breasted Pipit and the Sungazer. He supervises post-graduate students working on African pangolin ecology, their use in traditional medicine and their prevalence in the bushmeat markets of West and southern Africa.

 Nicci Wright 

Nicci is the APWG's Executive Director and an internationally qualified wildlife rehabilitation specialist who has worked with over 345 indigenous species, over many years. This enables her to advise individuals and facilities, both nationally and internationally, on various issues concerning orphaned, injured and compromised wildlife. 

Nicci manages the rescue and rehabilitation of most of South Africa’s pangolin poaching cases and she also advises the authorities on the best practice when dealing with poached pangolins. Nicci is a member of the IUCN Species Survival Commission Pangolin Specialist Group and the Wildlife Project Manager for HSI - Africa.

 Alexis Kriel 

Alexis started focusing on pangolins in January of 2014 after responding to a request for volunteers to take care of a black-bellied pangolin in the Central African Republic. During that time she worked with both black bellied (phataginus tetradactyla) and white-bellied pangolin pups under the mentorship and guidance of Nicci Wright.

Alexis has also recieved an international certification from the IWRC (International Wildlife Rehabilitation Council) and is a member of the IUCN Pangolin Specialist Group.

Alexis is part of the Ground Force Team and deals with media, rehabilitation and law enforcement.
